“Hey, can we talk?”

I was walking in the park, on an unseasonably warm January day in 2021. The recent unrest in our country, along with the historic insurrection at the Capitol was on my mind as I was trying to figure out what we, as a nation, needed to do to move forward.

As I walked a pair of women were running in the opposite direction, listening to the news. “Maybe Stacy Abrams needs to be tried for sedition,” the commentator said. In my own earbuds, another pundit was calling for “everyone who voted to object,” that day to be impeached and tried for sedition. It was then I realized that we as Americans inhabit very different worlds depending on the media we consume, the people we talk with, and the politics to which we ascribe.

If we inhabit different realities, it is no wonder that we struggle to come together and communicate, and when communication and compromise stop, it is almost impossible for us to function as a nation.

As communicators, we knew that we had to do something to help our fellow Americans wrestle with difficult issues. This discussion led to this documentary. #ReUnited implores us to reengage with people, especially when we don’t agree. Our nation is built on disagreement, and when we stop talking and retreat into our filter bubbles, we lose the ability to live and work together.

Will communication solve all of our problems? No. But unless we start the conversation, we cannot move forward. Join our conversation and be part of the solution.
